Let's admit it, we all like Beef. It is versatile - mince for spaghetti bolognaise, Sunday roast , steak on the bbq - it is a central part of the Australian family meal.
However, we are becoming increasingly aware of the significant contribution beef production has towards climate change. Scientists have repeatedly shown that high levels of beef consumption drive widespread deforestation, land degradation, biodiversity loss and a host of other impacts.
But beef might be the most climate-polluting substance people regularly use. In a Science article from 2018, researchers found that beef emits, on average, roughly 100 kilograms of greenhouse gases per kilogram consumed. That's huge! By comparison, burning one kilogram of coal - the dirtiest form of energy - releases about two kilograms of greenhouse gasses.

It is not about being extreme, but if we take a sensible view and make a few small changes - if we all ate a little less, maybe have smaller portions, less frequently we can help curb some of these greenhouse gas emissions.
It is something to think about.
