Egernia roomi is endemic to NSW where it is restricted to the Nandewar Ranges, located in the Northern Tablelands region of NSW.

The availability of suitable habitat for Egernia roomi in the Nandewar Ranges is highly limited, making the species vulnerable to several threatening or potentially threatening processes, including fire, anthropogenic climate change and habitat disturbance and degradation by feral goats and humans.
