The Australian government's Threatened Species Action Plan 2022-2032 selected over 100 priority species derived from consultation with threatened species experts and the wider community. While all species are important, focusing on a limited number of species can help target effort and resources so that outcomes can be achieved, measured and shared.
Description
The Arcadia Velvet Gecko is known from only two subpopulations in remnant patches of brigalow forest in the Arcadia Valley of central Queensland. information about the biology and ecology of Arcadia Velvet Gecko is extremely limited and is inferred from related geckos in the same genus
Threats
Fire is likely to be the most severe threat to the remaining subpopulations of the Arcadia Velvet Gecko witth moderate or high intensity fires burning in from adjacent forests or grazing land could reduce or completely remove habitat at the two remaining sites. The second issue is that buffel grass is found all through this region and this invasive grass encourages fire with the northern Brigalow Belt.
